Why Smartphones in India has slow 4G Speed?

The 4G network introduced in 2010 and now it is being used world over by the millions of internet users. Though, India is among the countries with very high internet using population, however, the Internet and Smartphone users in India are still getting used of this advanced 4th generation wireless communication network technology.

These are early days for 4G users in India; however, the speed issues are already being encountered by most of the 4G Smartphone users in India. Airtel was the first Telecom Company to introduce 4G technology in India. Now, it is being offered by all leading mobile networks, i.e. Vodaphone, Idea, and of course recently launched Jio Network. Let’s talk a bit further about Jio as it has become one of the largest Mobile networks in India in no time. To go with the reputation of being huge, the users of Reliance Jio are also facing 4G speed issues the most.

Reliance Jio 4G LTE Network

Launched by Reliance Industries in September, 2016, Jio is now the fastest growing 4G LTE Network in India with a customer base of over 50 million. This is the huge milestone to achieve for Jio, as the leading telecom companies of India, i.e. Airtel and Vodaphone acquired the customer base of 50 million in over one decade of their telecom services in India.

With its preview offer, Jio magnetized massive number of people to buy its Sim card and today is among the leading mobile networks in India. The people seen standing in long queues to buy Jio Sims and it all paid off as Jio offered about 50Mbps speed in the beginning that too absolutely free of cost as part of their preview offer. The offer still continues as the ‘Happy New Year offer’ that offers free high definition voice calls (Voice over LTE), video calls, and SMS facility for Jio subscribers. Reliance also offers the 4G enabled LYF Smartphones to provide best 4G LTE experience to its users in India.

Why Speed issues are there in 4G Network of India?

Well, there are a number of reasons behind the slow 4G speed in India. First and foremost is the need of higher bandwidth or more spectrum slots. For now Airtel offers the bandwidth of 2300MHz, whereas Jio offers three spectrum slots, i.e. Of 2300MHz, 1,800 MHz, and 850Mhz bands.

Reliance Jio blames the excessive data usage by its millions of customers for the lowering of the 4G LTE Speed. As per reports Jio’s 4G speed was significant in the beginning, however, as its user based expanded across the country, the speed also got divided among the users.

Now, on the other end Airtel - the major 4G spectrum network in India is said to have low speed, because of its limited spectrum slots. India is a developing country where network coverage is not that good in many rural areas, which is also a major hurdle in providing faster network speed across the country. Airtel also has 3G and 2G spectrum unlike Jio, hence, when 4G signals are week, the network converts from 4G to 3G or 2G, which give the users low data speed despite having 4G enabled Smartphone and mobile network. Due to all these reasons, even the 3G speed is not up to the international standards in India.

The Network speed may get better in India in years to come

The 4G network speed is expected to get better in coming years in India. However, things like network operators acquiring more spectrum slots, better coverage all along the country, falling data rates in view of competition, better Smartphone quality, etc. will hold the key for the same to happen. By now, wired broadband connections give much better and decent speed, i.e. up to 100Mpbs at the affordable price as well.

The rise of Reliance Jio has already indicated that in coming years, Indians will experience the faster network speed at the affordable charges only. Reliance is also planning to launch the low cost 4G VoLTE enabled Smartphones in India, which will bring another boom in the Smartphone market of India. It will also ensure that people with limited incomes can use the 4G internet technology through economical Smartphones.
